Donating your hair is a heartfelt and life-changing act of women's cancer and breast cancer support.

“Losing my hair from my cancer treatments was very difficult, as it is such a strong physical symbol of my illness,” says one wig recipient who prefers to remain anonymous. “The real-hair wig that I received from the Canadian Cancer Society through the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program gave me options and helped me to feel more like myself and for this I am grateful.”

Cancer patient

In 2010, approximately 83,900 Canadian women will be diagnosed with cancer and an estimated 36,200 women will die of cancer. Based on 2009 incidence rates, 40% of Canadian women will develop cancer during their lifetimes.

A real-hair wig allows a woman to look in the mirror and at least see a familiar face while she fights to regain a sense of normalcy in her life.

As Pantene Beautiful Lengths wigs are created, they are distributed for free through select Canadian Cancer Society wig banks across the country. Women facing cancer can find out about the availability of a Pantene Beautiful Lengths wig by calling the Canadian Cancer Society at 1-888-939-3333. Creating a real-hair wig takes approximately three to four months, and each wig requires at least six ponytails to make.
